New features from Instagram – Audio Rooms & Encryption

The Clubhouse may have taken the world by storm over the past year. Its other rivals are actively working on competing with Clubhouse. Twitter’s spaces and Fireside can be an example. Now Instagram is also launching its version of clubhouse

According to a post on Twitter, it can be assumed that the Facebook-owned platform Instagram is also working on Clubhouse competitor by trying to release a new ‘Audio Rooms’ feature on the photo-sharing platform Instagram.

What is the Clubhouse?

Clubhouse is a social networking platform based purely on audio chat. It allows users to listen to conversations, interviews, and discussions between interesting people on various topics and subjects. We can compare it to a podcast but live with an added layer of exclusivity.

Clubhouse App

The Clubhouse is an invite-only platform. You can’t just download it off the app store and
create an account. Much like a real-life country or yacht club, you have to be invited to join
by an existing member or friend. Real-world elitism, but make it virtual.

When you join, you select interesting topics, like tech, cars, sports, or health. The more
information you give the app about your interests, the more conversation rooms and
individuals the app will recommend to follow or join.

Audio Rooms on Instagram

Like the Clubhouse, Instagram is working on ‘Audio Rooms’ as reported by a leaker on Twitter. The feature seems to be in its early stage, which means it would take some time to officially released.

As per the user’s screenshots, the Audio Rooms feature would be incorporated into the Direct
Message or DM section of Instagram. Screenshots also suggest that users get a mic icon to
mute or unmute themselves while in an audio room.

Instagram New Encryption Feature

The same Twitter user shared that Instagram is also working on an end-to-end encryption
feature for your messages, just like WhatsApp.
A new option is saying Start end-to-end encrypted chat has been seen in one of the Twitter
user’s screenshots, which suggests that you’ll soon be able to initiate encrypted conversations
with other Instagram users.

Release Date

As we have mentioned earlier, these features currently seem to be in their early stage, which
means users need to wait for a while to use them in their Instagram app.

You can download the Instagram Beta app to get the latest updates before they are released to the public. As for the rest of you make sure you keep Instagram updated on your phone to ensure you get these features as soon as they’re rolled out. Enabling auto-updates in Google Play Store is a good idea to ensure you don’t miss the latest Instagram app updates.
